Esri Renews NTIS Partnership Supporting White House Priorities with Access to Geographic Data
The Biden administration has prioritized goals relating to climate change, equity, and infrastructure, particularly with the signing of a $1.2 trillion bill to rebuild America’s aging infrastructure. To take action on many of these initiatives requires access to accurate geographic data while ensuring transparency for all the organizations involved. To support these goals, Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, has renewed a joint venture partnership with the US Department of Commerce’s National Technical Information Service (NTIS). The agreement supports innovative joint venture projects throughout the federal government to make data more accessible and transparent.

Map explorer tool recognized at world’s largest GIS conference
The ASU Library Map and Geospatial Hub’s virtual 3D Explorer application opens the doors of the hub to users all over the world, with the ability to experience the space and browse the collection virtually.
Recently, the innovative tool received special recognition from leading industry experts at the 2022 Esri User Conference, where the Map and Geospatial Hub’s 3D GIS Explorer project was honoured with the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award.
This is the first time Arizona State University has been awarded an Esri SAG award, which honours organizations for their vision, leadership and innovative use of geographic information systems (GIS).
Mission ends for Copernicus Sentinel-1B satellite
ESA’s Director of Earth Observation Programmes, Simonetta Cheli, stated, “Unfortunately, we have to announce the end of the mission for the Copernicus Sentinel-1B satellite. The conclusion drawn by the Anomaly Review Board is that it is impossible to recover the 28V regulated bus of the satellite’s C-band synthetic aperture radar antenna power supply unit, which is needed to provide power to the radar electronics.
“Sentinel-1A remains very healthy in orbit, continuing to deliver high-quality radar images for a multitude of applications. Our focus is on fast-tracking the launch of Sentinel-1C. Now, thanks to the successful inaugural flight of the Vega-C rocket on 13 July, we, with Arianespace, are targeting the launch in the second quarter of 2023.”
