Esri, Siemens Team on Geographic Information System Modeling

Siemens Smart Infrastructure has partnered with geographic information systems (GIS) and location intelligence firm Esri to expand its ecosystem of partners for its grid software business.

The partnership enhances capabilities for the planning, operations and maintenance of power networks at grid operators by combining Esri’s mapping and spatial analytics software and Siemens’ electrical topology expertise.

In doing so, the companies aim to upgrade the data flow between applications for increased planning accuracy and for better operations of the distribution grid. The partnership´s objective is to improve the admission of distributed energy resources (DER) to the grid so that net zero can be achieved faster.

The news follows a recent launch of Siemens’ Grid Software Suite, an open, interoperable suite of software that creates a holistic digital twin to plan, operate and maintain power grids.

NLC Urges Counties To Expedite Spatial Plans

The National Land Commission has asked county governments to expedite the development of spatial plans to enable them to properly manage resources and spur economic growth in the devolved units.

NLC Commissioner Esther Murugi lamented that only six out of the 47 counties have approved spatial plans, ten years since the onset of devolution, and wondered whether the county government knew the importance of the plans.

She however lauded the Kilifi County Government for being the sixth to develop a county spatial plan, the others being the County Governments of Lamu, Makueni, Baringo, Bomet and Kericho
